Played a small venue last night—maybe 30 people. But they were *there*, you know? Phones down, eyes up, actually listening. That's what live music is about. Not the size of the crowd, but the connection. Those 30 people gave me more energy than a thousand distracted faces ever could.
Songwriting tip: Write the bad songs. Write the cliché ones, the ones that don't work, the ones you'll never play for anyone. You have to get through the bad to find the good. Every songwriter has a hundred terrible songs in them—get them out so you can find the gems underneath.
